Fully online delivery

Incorporating fully online delivery and the use of the first Cyber Range in Ireland where learners can test their new skills, our programmes will address national and regional skills shortages in this rapidly changing technological environment. These innovative delivery methods means these programmes can be scaled regionally, nationally and even internationally.

Cyber Skills Initiative

We are Ireland's leading experts in cybersecurity education. Four of Ireland's top universities, Munster Technological University, University College Dublin, University of Limerick and Technological University Dublin  are collaborating to provide pathways and micro-credentials to address skill shortages in the area of Cyber Security. Our programs will provide you with the knowledge, skills and training needed to upskill and enhance your career in cybersecurity.

Cyber Skills is a highly focused, collaborative initiative addressing skill shortages in the Cybersecurity sector. Cyber Skills will work closely with industry to gain insight into the needs of the Cyber Security workplace, in order to design targeted upskilling/reskilling pathways to produce workplace ready graduates. Incorporating fully online delivery and the use of the first Cyber Range in Ireland where learners can test their new skills, our programmes will address national and regional skills shortages in this rapidly changing technological environment. These innovative delivery methods means these programmes can be scaled regionally, nationally and even internationally. This project has been awarded a significant amount of funding of €8.1 Million from the Human Capital Initiative programme from the Higher Authority.

Cyber Skills' Aims

Create Innovative, Enterprise focused and Research informed cybersecurity courses through meaningful collaboration with enterprise, research entities and national/international academic partners.

Empower Learner to design their own courses and take their own pathways with straightforward articulation and progression routes and clear mapping to NFQ levels. Cyber Skills will develop a typology of non-formal learning achievements and will develop a series of micro credentials which correspond with the associated learning requirements.

Facilitate new learning pathways using micro credentials and by capturing learning through e-Portfolios, providing flexibility in reward, indication, accommodation, and scaffolding of new forms of learning and learner pathways.

Cyber Skills is coordinated across four different higher education institutes in Ireland. Lead by the Munster Technological University there other partners are Technological University Dublin, University College Dublin and University of Limerick. The project also benefits from an international dimension with the involvement of Virginia’s Commonwealth Cyber Initiative which is based at the American university, Virginia Tech.

“Cyber Skills provides the building blocks needed to set you up for a career in Cyber Security. Online learning and the ability to re-watch a lecture has given me the freedom to work a full-time job and also fit in my extra-curricular activities.”

Colm McSweeney, Secure Network Operations Pathway

“Security is paramount on financial systems, and it cannot be implemented as an afterthought, I wanted to reinforce my knowledge on Cyber Security, to continue to design robust systems capable of sustaining today’s sophisticated attacks.”
